FREE eBook - Asthma Prevention and Control

The symptoms of asthma include wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.
It is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. The
prevalence of asthma has increased significantly since the 1970s. As of 2010, 300 million
people were affected worldwide.
The way to avoid an asthma attack is to identify and avoid asthma triggers. A number of
allergens and irritants like pollen, mold, and air pollution can trigger asthma attacks.
If animal dander is one of your asthma triggers, keep pets away from you and place a filter
over the heat and air conditioning vents. Use unscented soaps, cleaning materials, and detergents.
Fix any water leaks to prevent mold from growing. Remove carpet from the living areas
and vacuum floors regularly.
Find out what causes or worsens your asthma, and take steps to avoid those triggers.
Monitor your breathing. You may learn to recognize warning signs of an impending attack,
such as slight coughing, wheezing or shortness of breath. Identify and treat attacks early.
If you act quickly, you're less likely to have a severe attack. You can learn how to control
asthma for good without having to constantly take medication.
