Questionnaire - Are You Obsessive?
By Stephen Bucaro
Everybody needs to establish routines in their life. Routines and habits provide us with
a level of familiarity and comfort. However when rituals become excessive, when you spend
hours repeatedly washing or rechecking things, then you may be suffering from OCD
(Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder).
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, more than three million Americans
suffer from OCD. The actual number may be much larger because most OCD sufferers do not seek
help. OCD strikes people of all genders and ethnic groups. OCD is characterized by thoughts
of fear of contamination, losing control, excessive doubts about something being done,
needing to have things perfectly orderly, or by repeated impulses to do something violent or alarming.
In an effort to gain control over an obsession, the individual will perform repeated
rituals like washing or rechecking things. These behaviors are called compulsions. Some
compulsions involve counting things over and over, or repeating phrases, or making lists.
If this describes some of your behavior, take the following test. The results of the test
will indicate your possibility of having OCD.
