StripFile Freeware Image File Size Reducer

StripFile reduces image file size by removing nonessential information such as comments. Click on the "Settings" button to open the "Options" dialog box and set check boxes to configure what will be removed from the file to reduce its size, for example "Remove embedded text" or "Remove comments". Then enter a file or folder name, or click on the "Browse..." button to navigate to a file or folder. Then click on the "Compress" button.

StripFile does not modify your original files, instead it creates a folder "Stripped [foldername]" for the reduced files. The program's creater claim file size reductions of as much as 40 or 50 percent. I found reductions more along the lines of 2 percent. It reduces image file sizes primarily by removing any embedded comments. The comments in image files usualy consist of the name of the application that created or last modifed them and copyright information.

If the image file is used on a webpage, because the image may be transfered thousands or even hundreds of thousands of times each month, even a small reduction in file size can improve download time and reduce bandwidth consumption.

StripFile is small 861KB download. It has a help file and uninstall utility, and is freeware. You are welcome to use or distribute it as you like, providing the package is not modified in any way, and you're not selling it for profit. continued...
